Submitted By Darnell Lambert on Wed 09 07, 22
Norfolk Minor Hockey is pleased to announce that we are planning to run Select teams for U10/11, U12/13 and U14/15 divisions for the 2022-2023 season.  In addition, we will be holding tryouts for a Norfolk “BB” U18 team immediately following the conclusion of the Norfolk U18 “A” team tryouts.

Players interested in playing on a Select team are not required to have tried out for Norfolk “A” teams.   All players playing local league hockey in Simcoe, Waterford or Port Dover will be eligible.  Interest will be gathered and selections made following Norfolk tryouts.

U18 Players interested in playing on the Norfolk “BB” U18 team must register for U18A tryouts.  For U18 players (born 2005 and 2006) not already registered with Norfolk Minor Hockey - please contact the registrar at: [email protected] to indicate your interest. Contact must be made no later than September 17th

U18 (2005/2006) players expressing interest in U18BB will be permitted to join the U18A development skates now underway.   All U18 (2005/2006) players must attend the Norfolk U18 “A” tryouts to be eligible for consideration for the Norfolk U18 “BB” team.  Released U18 (2005/2006) players must register for the U18BB tryout  - respecting that such registrations will happen only following releases.  Cost will be $50 and provide for a min of 2 tryout skates.

For U16 (born 2007) players, it is recognized that U18BB was not communicated as an option during U16A tryouts.  As such, U16 (2007) players interested in trying out for the U18BB team are required to

1) U16 (2007) players must register for U18BB tryouts by Sept 17th ($50 - min 2 tryout skates provided), and

** SHOULD INTEREST IN THIS CATEGORY OF PROGRAMMING FAIL TO YIELD SUFFICIENT NUMBERS TO YIELD A TEAM, PLAYERS WILL BE GIVEN THE OPTION OF A REVERSE NRP.  SHOULD A TEAM BE FIELDED, REVERSE NRP's CANNOT BE PROVIDED TO RELEASED PLAYERS.  ALSO - BB TEAMS DO NOT ALLOW FOR NRP PLAYERS. **

Questions and Answers:

U18BB

Q1: What loop will 'BB' teams play in?
A1: BB teams are expected to play in the Niagara loop.

Q2: What will the 'BB' rep fee be?
A2: This is to be determined but will be reflective of the amount of ice time allocated to the team.

Q3: How many players are needed to field a competitive 'BB' team?
A3: Maximum roster of 19 players; minimum would be 16 (including 1 goalie)

Q4: Will U18BB impacts the ability to field U18 Local League teams?
A4: Current assessments indicate that offering BB at the U18 level will not impact the overall number of U18 teams operating at the local league level - thus the decision to offer this program at this level. Norfolk Minor Hockey will closely monitor this concern to ensure this assessment proves out. U18BB allows for players born 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Select

Q1: What is select hockey?
A1: Select hockey is the highest level of recreational hockey that can be offered within an local league operation. Select teams are assembled from top skilled local league players to form an 'additional' team beyond that of their Local League team.  These 'additional' teams are permitted to participate in up to 3 exhibition games per month and up to 3 tournaments throughout the 2022-23 season. Select teams allow players to be challenged with higher caliber play against other centers the operate select teams.

Q2: What is the cost to play select hockey?
A2: The fee has not yet been set but typically a select hockey player would pay approximately $200 (excluding tournaments) to play select hockey.

Q3: What is the expected travel distance to play a select 'away' game.
A3: Travel distance will be guided by the coaches arrangements with other centers.  Known nearby centers typically offering select hockey include: Brantford 99ers', Brantford Saints, Guelph Gryphons, Kitchener Rangers, London Nationals, Ancaster Avalanche.

Q4: Can a select player still play local leauge?
A4: Yes, in fact a select player must give his local league team top priority (attend all LL practices and games). Select hockey will offer 'additional practices' and 'additional game play' beyond that of his/her local league play.

Q5: Can a select player be AP'd to another higher category team?
A5: Yes, select does not interfere with a players ability to be AP's to a higher category team.
