Where Do the Teams Play?

What Does MD Stand For?

In minor hockey, MD (Minor Development) is a competitive level between House League/Local League and Representative (Rep) hockey. MD teams play at a higher level than House League but do not participate in the Ontario Hockey Federation's official "Rep" classifications (such as A, AA, or AAA).

What MD Programs Does Norfolk Offer?

The Norfolk Knights offer Minor Development (MD) programs for two age groups:

  • U8 MD: Focuses on foundational skills and team play for players under 8 years old.

  • U9 MD: Introduces more advanced game concepts and skill development for players under 9 years old.

These programs ensure a balance between competition and player development, helping young athletes grow in their abilities and love for the game.

Norfolk Knights 2025/2026 Season – Registration & Fees

Final registration and fee details are still to be determined as we await the final costs from Norfolk County.

A reminder that all Norfolk teams are entirely self-funded. This means that every dollar contributed to a team goes directly toward covering its expenses, including ice time, game fees, development programs, league fees, referees, timekeepers, insurance, and more.

At the end of the season, any unused funds will be refunded to players through Spordle. In the event that a team exceeds its budget, the team will be responsible for covering the additional costs.

What were the Registration and Rep Fees for the 2024/2025 Season?

  • U8 - U9 MD: $700 registration + $550 rep fees (Total: $1,250)

  • U10 - U18 A: $700 registration + $950 rep fees (Total: $1,650)

  • U11 - U18 B: $700 registration + $750 rep fees (Total: $1,450)

What Do These Fees Cover?

The registration and rep fees contribute to essential costs, including:

  • Ice Fees: Covers practice and game ice time.

  • Player Development: Coaching resources, skill training, and development programs.

  • League Fees: Costs for league operations and scheduling.

  • Insurance: Ensures all players are properly insured for the season.

  • Administrative Fees: Supports team management and registration processing.

These fees are based on a "best-effort" estimate to cover all program expenses.

Are There Additional Team-Specific Fees?

Yes, each team is self-funded, and families may contribute to extra costs such as:

  • Additional Ice Time: Extra practices, development sessions, and exhibition games.

  • Player Development: Additional training opportunities.

Team fees are estimated based on previous costs, and any unused funds will be credited back to families' Spordle accounts.

How Are Budgets Managed?

We encourage open communication regarding budgets and expenses. Your team manager is the first point of contact for fee-related questions. If needed, they can escalate concerns to a board member for further assistance.

Are There Additional Costs?

Yes, families should budget for:

  • Tournament Fees: Teams typically participate in multiple tournaments, which are not included in the registration fees.

  • Travel Expenses: Includes gas, accommodations, and meals for away games or tournaments.

  • Additional Team Costs: Such as team apparel, team-building activities, or extra training sessions.

Can Teams Fundraise to Help With Costs?
