U11 Champions - Peggy Hill Classic in Barrie
What a weekend for the Norfolk Knights!
There were five Norfolk teams competing this past weekend at The 400 Cup Peggy Hill Classic Tournament in Barrie. All five teams made it to the semi-finals. Four of these teams went on to the finals! Two teams were Finalists and the other two teams came home as Champions!
Norfolk Knights - you make us proud!
So how about those U11s?
The U11 Team had an amazing weekend at this second tournament of the year. On Friday morning they got their "feet wet" against Erie North Shore Storm, ending with a 2-2 tie. The afternoon saw an opportunity to bring in their first win but a strong Barrie Jr Colts (the home town team) kept us to 3-3 tie.
The boys went into the second day undefeated but hungry for a win! On Saturday morning East Gwillimbury Eagles lost to our noble Knights as we scored our first win (2-0). The afternoon game against Peterborough Petes resulted in our second win (5-1) leaving us still undefeated (2-0-2) and now in first place at the end of the round robin competition. Waterloo Wolves, the team we did not go up against, tied on points for first with the Knights, but we had a better goal differential (6 to 5). This was an indicator of this very competitive division at the tournament. Any team at any time could go all the way!
Very early Sunday morning saw the Norfolk Knights up against the 4th place East Gwillimbury team. This time there was no doubt we were in it to win. Final score 4 to 2 and on to the finals!
Home town Barrie Colts came out hard with the first goal near the end of the first period. This showed us they were going to make this a battle for the gold! Knights tied it up with 12 seconds left in the first period. A minute into the second period saw our go ahead goal and let the Colts know we meant business. That two minutes was a key turning point for the Knights. Two more Knight's goals gave us a bit of breathing room but the Colts were not done. They scored their second goal with under three minutes left in the game.
Norfolk Knights, through hard work, determination, and incredible team work were rewarded with their first tournament Championship!
Thanks to the families, coaches, and especially the boys for making this a weekend to remember!
