The Norfolk Knights U9 MD wrapped up the week, earning a 3-3 tie against the Delhi-Norwich 59ers and an 8-4 victory over the East Elgin Attack.
Tuesday, January 28 – Norfolk Knights vs. Delhi-Norwich 59ers. The Knights kicked off the week with a tightly contested battle in Delhi, resulting in a hard-fought 3-3 tie. Hudson Coats opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, but the 59ers responded with two quick markers to take the lead. Norfolk fought back with a strong power-play effort, as Jordan Santos found the back of the net unassisted to even the score at 2-2. In the third, Coats struck again, this time off a great setup from Caleb Dumoulin, putting the Knights ahead. However, minutes later the 59ers capitalized on a scoring opportunity to tie the game, and that's how things would end.
Sunday, February 2 – Norfolk Knights vs. East Elgin Attack. Returning to home ice, the Knights faced off against the East Elgin Attack in a high-scoring affair, coming away with a well-earned 8-4 victory. Lane Smith got the Knights rolling with a goal off an assist from Hudson Coats, and Keegan Wentzell followed up with an unassisted tally. East Elgin’s Ronan Brown responded with three straight goals, briefly giving the Attack control. But Norfolk answered back before the end of the period, as Smith notched his second of the game with an assist from Hunter Buck, tying things at 3-3. Special teams were the difference in the second, with Jordan Santos scoring a short-handed goal unassisted to reclaim the lead. Shortly after, James Clarke netted another short-handed marker, assisted by Kaden Cordingley, giving the Knights a 5-3 edge heading into the final period. The offense continued to roll in the third, as Clarke struck again, this time off a setup from Cordingley, extending the lead to 6-3. East Elgin answered back, with Brown scoring his fourth of the game, assisted by Knox DeSutter. However, Norfolk sealed the win with two late goals—Wentzell finishing off a pass from Keaton Van Groningen and Knox Booker, followed by Coats adding the final tally off an assist from Buck. Final Score: Norfolk Knights 8 – East Elgin Attack 4.
Looking ahead the Knights will be heading into a tough weekend with back-to-back home games, including a rematch with the Delhi 59ers on Saturday and a matchup against Brant on Sunday.
