The Norfolk Knights U9s stay hot with victories over the Delhi-Norwich 59ers and the Paris Wolfpack this past weekend. They will look to carry that hot streak up to Owen Sound in search of a Silver Stick Championship.
The Norfolk Knights have been on a roll lately, showcasing their skill and determination on the ice. Up first was a rematch against the 59ers, who tied this past tuesday. The Knights came out strong in this one, with Hudson Coats opening the scoring an unassisted goal early in the second period to go up 1-0. The 59ers responded with a goal from Bryson Baswick, assisted by Cal Devos. However, the Knights weren't to be outdone. James Clarke, while the team was short-handed, delivered a beauty goal with assists from Kaden Cordingley and Keaton Van Groningen, securing a 2-1 victory for the Knights.
On Sunday, the Paris Wolfpack was in town for a long awaited rematch. In front of a sold out, standing room only crowd in lovely Waterford, the Knights put on a solid performance. Late in the first period, Keegan Wentzell buried a slick pass from James Clarke, for a beauty one-timer that left the goalie no chance. Paris tried to claw back, with Beckett Willson netting an unassisted goal early in the second. But the Knights were just warming up. Ezra Bezzo, set up by Lane Smith, unleashed another one-timer that was nothing short of highlight-reel material. And to cap it off, in the third period, Keegan Wentzell returned a favour, with a beauty pass to Clarke, who delivered the third one-timer of the night, Keaton VanGroningen also assisted on the goal. The Knights took this one 3-1.
With these victories, the Knights wrapped up the first half of their full-ice season with an impressive record of 6-0-2, including a championship win at the Blue and Gold Classic. The Knights will head to the Silver Stick tournament in Owen Sound this weekend, where they'll face the Elmvale Coyotes, Owen Sound Attack, and Wasaga Beach Stars in the round-robin stage.
